Docata – the Online Tool for Doctoral Researchers

Doctoral candidates and doctoral researchers use Docata for online applications and get access to important information and documents about their doctoral procedures.

Reviewers and members of the examination commissions use Docata to recieve informations about the examination procedures and gain access to documents, e.g. the electronic version of the dissertation. Find more information here.

The faculties at University of Hamburg are responsible for the administration of doctoral procedures.

When will the faculties start Docata?

In 2023 the faculties at Universität Hamburg started Docata. Inform yourself at the websites of your faculty about the doctoral procedures and start of Docata.

Start July 2023: Faculty of Business Administration

Start September 2023: Faculty of Education

Start July 2023: Faculty of Law

Start October 2023: Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences

Start August 2023: Faculty of Psychology and Human Movement Science

Psychology and Human Movement Science

Start September 2023: Faculty of Humanities

Start July 2024: Faculty of Medicine / UKE

The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences uses until further notice Docata-min.

You want to start a doctorate at Universität Hamburg?

  • Inform yourself about the admission to the doctorate in your faculty before you register in Docata.
  • Register in Docata
    • with your university user account, in case you are member at Universität Hamburg,
    • with your STiNE account, in case yo are enrolled at Universität Hamburg
    • or register with a Docata account.
  • After login in Docata use the online application for admission to the doctorate.
  • After admission you receive – in case you use a Docata account – the university user account.
  • Afterwards enroll in STiNE.

You are doctoral researcher?

  • Login to Docata with your university user account data.

  • Use Docata for:

    • Update of contact data

    • Updates during your Doctorate:

      • Interruption of doctorate (e. g. maternal leave)

      • Termination of your doctorate

      • Changes on membership in graduate program

      • Information about research stays abroad

    • Apply for an extension of your admission (standard completion time)

    • Apply  for the opening of the doctorate proceedings

    • Upload of further documents
  • In Docata you get access to documents and important news about your doctoral procedures.

Registration in Docata for applicants to the doctorate

  • Doctoral researchers who are admitted to the doctoral procedures and are enrolled don't need to register.
  • Reviewers and members of doctoral examination commitee don't need to register.
  • Doctoral researchers at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences please use the Docata version at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. Informations can be found at the websites of the Departments of the Faculty MIN.

You need to register in Docata if you want to apply for the admission to a doctorate.

  • Before registering, inquire about the admissions process in your faculty.
  • Registration in Docata with IDM account.
    • If you are already a member of Universität Hamburg and have a user ID (Benutzerkennung), log in to Docata with your user ID.
    • If you are already enrolled at Universität Hamburg, use your STiNE account data for registration in Docata.
    • Your personal data of your university user account are displayed. Please note, if your forname, surname or birth data need a correction, use the contact form of the Campus Center and / or inform the Human Resources Department.
  • Registration in Docata with Docata account.
    • If you are not member of the University of Hamburg, create a Docata account. Please ensure, that your personal data are correct.
  • After registration you will receive an email with a link.
    • The link is valid for 12 hours. Therefore, check your e-mail immediately after completing the registration.
    • Click on the link and set your password. Depending on your browser configuration, you should close the browser or use the reload button. Afterwards you can login to Docata.

IDM account: If you use your Universität Hamburg user account, some of the information is already filled in. Only a few additional details are required.

Docata account: If you apply for a Docata account, please provide the following information.

  • Email
  • Email (repetition)
  • Gender
    • Please select "diverse" or "not specified" only if this selection is officially registered for you in the register of civil status.
  • Title
    • academic titel in case you are already Dr. or PhD
  • First name(s)Specification according to identification document (ID, passport, visa)
  • Preferred first name
    • How would you like to be addressed?
  • Surname
    • Specification according to identification document (ID, passport, visa)
  • Name affix
  • Name of birth:
    • enter your name of birth in case it is different to your surname
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Country of birth

Registration E-Mail

After registering your Docata account, you will receive an email with a link. Therefore, check your e-mail immediately after completing the registration.
